If you’re starved for an authentic chili-burger and corn fritters, TigerBull’s is heaven.

For two years, this locally owned restaurant at Forest and Abrams has quietly been gaining a reputation for good, inexpensive food in a family-oriented setting. It’s simple, windowed interior offers more room than any chain hamburger-mart.

Your first trip to TigerBull’s should include one of their burgers, all of which are hickory-grilled and run from $3.10 to $4.65. You can’t go wrong with the combo ($3.65): a burger with hickory smoke sauce, chili and cheese. For sides, try the corn-fritters ($1.50) – deep-fried nuggets of corn that must be tasted to be appreciated.

Finish your meal with a funnel cake ($2) – just like the ones you get at the fair.

For the less hungry, or the more cholesterol-conscious, TigerBull’s offers a grilled chicken sandwich ($3.85) and two grilled chicken salads ($4.65 for either). Shaved-ice ($2) makes for a fat-free dessert, and the “belly shake,” ($2.50) despite the name, is a healthy low-fat chocolate nutritional shake exclusive to TigerBull’s.

Homemade-ice cream ($1 for small, $2 for large) recently was added to TigerBull’s menu. A popular flavor – and deservedly so – is the berry cheesecake.

Every Tuesday night, children eat for 99 cents and can enjoy a clown or a bounce-house on alternating weeks. On Wednesdays, most of the burgers are 99 cents – hard to beat, especially considering the hefty portions.

In case you’re wondering, when owner Mark Russell was a kid, his neighborhood barber gave him the nickname “TigerBull.” Russell says he doesn’t know what the name means, but it stuck. TigerBull’s is open for lunch and dinner daily except Sundays. For more information, call 343-BULL.
