HALL OF FAMER: Last month I reported on the induction of outstanding athletes into the Lake Highlands High School Hall of Fame at the Red and White game. Unfortunately, I unintentionally overlooked a very important inductee.

Coach Jacky Russell was also included in the prestigious group. He was the first track coach at Lake Highlands and had an incredible record. More importantly, he made a lasting impression on the young people he coached and taught.

He is currently principal at Westwood Junior High and continues to impact the lives of his students. During the ceremony, Russell inducted the 1975 state champion cross country team.

Thank you Jerry McVay, a Lake Highlands High School counselor, for calling this oversight to my attention.

MR. PRESIDENT: Just call Craig Jarrell ’75 Mr. President from now on. Jarrell was named president of Heart and Mort, a residential brokerage firm. The business is based in Lake Highlands and serves the immediate area and more. To contact him, call 553-1310.

DR. KENKADE: Scott Kenkade ’87 was recently awarded a doctoral degree in medicine from the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center Medical School. Kenkade was accepted into a family practice residency program at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Ga.

OUTSTANDING WILDCATS: Wildcat alumni David Brummel was named Men’s Most Outstanding Performer for the cross country track team at Earlham College.

Another graduate who deserves a hearty congratulations is Shannon DerRousell ’91. She was class president and received the National Negro Achievement Award in 1991. She graduated from Yale University in May with a bachelors of arts in Economics and African American studies.
