For most of the year, I tell you what restaurants I like. Now is your chance to tell me what restaurants you like through the Advocate’s Third Annual Readers Taste Award

Your voting results will appear in our special dining guide section in October. Vote for any restaurant in our circulation area – North Central Expressway to White Rock Lake, from LBJ to I-30. We’ll draw ballots, and three winners will receive special prizes.

A ballot is printed with this column. Return it – by mail or fax – no later than Sept. 7. Your comments are encouraged. In fact, that’s my favorite part of counting the ballots – looking to see what you wrote.

To get you started, here’s a list of my favorite restaurants.

  • Natchez, 2810 N. Henderson, 821-4552. This is the best restaurant in Dallas, and no one seems to know about it. Owner Dan Vincent offers fine service, a reasonably priced menu, a great wine list, a convivial atmosphere and wonderful food.
  • Matt’s No Place, 6310 Las Vista, 823-9077. Matt Martinez is famous for his Mexican food, and now he is famous for his Southwestern food. This place lives up to its reputation with excellent food, reasonable prices and good service.
  • Glorias, 9386 LBJ Freeway in the Howard Johnson Motel, 690-0622. Who would have thought that a restaurant in a motel could be this good? Gloria’s serves Salvadoran and Tex-Mex. The food is inexpensive, interesting and tasty. Don’t expect fancy décor, just a meal to remember.
  • Aransas Pass, 2912 N. Henderson, 827-8650. The only difference between the big names in Dallas dining and Aransas Pass is the price. The big names may be a lot more expensive, but there is no drop in the quality of food and service here. Aransas Pass even has a patio that is as pleasant as it is unpretentious.
